Wouida Maurine Matney Thurman, 88 of Midlothian, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 25, 1929 in Illinois Bend, Texas to the late Ernest and Maudie Martin Matney.
Wouida enjoyed pottery, ceramics, making jewelry with beads, gardening, bird watching, painting, playing the guitar and piano, astronomy, astrology and sewing. She won awards in Toastmasters and Fiber Artist of Dallas. She was a member of the Red Hat Club, the Ditzy Doll Tarts Doll Club and wrote newsletters for the Ovilla Garden Club for over 20 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Maurine Martin and her husband, Charles of Red Oak; her son, Tom Thurman and his wife, Connie of Milford; 5 grandchildren, Jeff Springer, Dusty Springer, Erin Thurman, Cayce Hyles and Paula Rodriguez; 10 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Ralph Taylor Thurman; her mother and father, Maudie Eukatan Martin and Ernest Frank Matney; also by her sisters, Norma Majors and Treva Dolezal.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
