Wilma Thiele Dorsey of Waxahachie passed away peacefully on December 29, 2012 after a brief illness. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Central Presbyterian Church of Waxahachie on Friday, January 4 at 11 a.m with Rev. Matt Curry officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2013. Mrs. Dorsey was born on August 27, 1924 in Dallas, the child of William F. and Emma Jane Thiele. After moving to the Rio Grande Valley , she graduated from Mission High School where she was valedictorian. She received both her bachelor's and master's degrees in music from the University of North Texas and began teaching at Tarleton State University in 1947. In 1948 she married Harold B. Dorsey, a fellow North Texan. The Dorseys moved to Waxahachie in 1951 where she served as choral director at Waxahachie High School until 1957. She taught private piano lessons from 1947 until the time of her death, teaching families into the third generation. She was active in the music ministry of Central Presbyterian Church where her husband was music director and she served as children's choir director, substitute organist, and sang in the Chancel Choir. Mrs. Dorsey was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Waxahachie, teaching Sunday School there for many years. Mrs. Dorsey was active in many civic and professional organizations including Waxahachie Music Teachers' Association, Century Club, Junior Service League, American Association of University Women, Waxahachie Symphony League, Ellis County Historical Association, and Friends of the Nicholas P. Sims Library. In 1964 she was named First Lady of Waxahachie and in 2008 received the Outstanding Educator Award from the Waxahachie Ex-Students' Association. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harold B. Dorsey of Waxahachie; her children, Leigh Ann McClure of Keller and Marcus Stuart Dorsey of Red Oak; grandchildren, Kate McClure of Keller, Michelle Joseph and husband, Floyd Joseph of Keller, and Michael McClure of New York City; a brother, Dr. Edward Thiele of Nashville, TN; a brother-in-law, E.C. Dorsey of Hurst and sister-in-law, Myrtis Gray of North Richland Hills, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and close cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the music ministry of Central Presbyterian Church, the Ellis County Historical Association, or the Friends of the Nicholas P. Sims Library.
