William "Bill" Smith, Sr., 92, passed away on August 11, 2016 in Waxahachie. Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Zimmerman officiating.
Bill was born on October 12, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio to Howard and Hazel (Coss) Smith. He married his wife, Genevieve, on November 27, 1950. Bill enlisted in the United States Navy in 1940 and retired in 1960. He was always so proud of his service that he faithfully gave to this country. He enjoyed participating in the Waxahachie Fourth of July Parade on the Veteran's Float. Bill was a hard worker and never wanted to stop working. After serving 20 years with the Navy and receiving his retirement, he went on to work at the Bank of Virginia, now known as Wells Fargo, and retired from there as well. He worked at Sears after that and officially retired at the age of 79 so that he could take care of his wife who had become sick. Bill just wasn't the type to complain about anything. Except for the wait time at the doctor's office, but hey, who doesn't? He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He and his son enjoyed the R.O.M.E.O Club get-togethers they had eating breakfast with the guys. Bill always got along with everybody and he greeted everyone the same way. His family and friends will miss him dearly.
Bill was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife, Genevieve Maude Smith; daughters, Deborah Smith Schilling and Sharyn Smith; and sisters, Nona Sampsell and Grace Bacon.
Survivors include his son, William A. "Chip" Smith, Jr.; brother, Harold Lampkin; sister, Ella Henning; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie.
