William Charles "Snookum" Cavender, a lifetime Ellis County resident, passed away Thursday evening at the Ennis Care Center. He was born in Long Branch, TX. to Vernon and Hazel (Gray) Cavender. Snookum graduated from Midlothian High School and shortly thereafter entered the US Navy, serving on the USS Wesson during WWII. He was a market manager in the grocery business. Mr. Cavender was of the Presbyterian faith.

Snookum is survived by: his wife, Jeanie (Horn) Cavender of Waxahachie; two sons, David Cavender and wife Joanna, also of Waxahachie, and Tim Cavender of Midlothian; two sisters, Jane Jordan and husband N. B. "Buck" Jordan of Waxahachie and Mary Elizabeth Cantrell of Ft. Worth; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Saturday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 2 PM Military Graveside Services and interment Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Hillcrest Burial Park with Pastor Bruce Zimmerman officiating. Pallbearers will be David Cavender, Tim Cavender, Nathaniel Cavender, Turner Cavender,Zachary Cavender, Dillon Cavender, Jeff Jordan and Nick Jordan.
