Willard Davis Jr., age 83

Mr. Davis passed away early Monday morning at the VA Hospital in Dallas.
Willard was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Willard and Winnie Duff (Young) Davis Sr.. He was raised in Crosbyton. Willard served in the US Army during WWII as a paratrooper in the Asiatic/Pacific Theatre, receiving two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and other citations. Willard married Joan Green August 30, 1946 in Dickens, Texas. Willard Davis Jr. was a Cowboy, Rancher, Horse Trainer, and Saddle Repairman. He and Joan moved to Waxahachie in 1964.
His achievements were many: National Cutting Horse Association, Florida Cutting Horse Association-Director, North Texas Cutting Horse Association-Director, Member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Judge for the NCHA and AQHA. He was in the Top Ten of the World in the NCHA for four years with "Snappy Dunn". Willard was recently inducted into the NCHA Hall of Fame.
Surviving him is his wife of 60 years Joan of Waxahachie, two daughters; Juan Davis, Monica Davis both of Waxahachie, two grandsons; Dusty Autrey and his wife Kristi, of Waxahachie, Cody Autrey and his wife Terra of Arlington, one great granddaughter Lani Autrey of Waxahachie. Also surviving him are two brothers; Preston Davis of Vega, Texas, Thomas Davis of Crosbyton, Texas, one sister Juanita Bennet of Princeton, Texas nieces and nephews; Marty Davis and his wife De Ann, Tony Davis and his wife Lisa. His parents and sister Vivian Hatley preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends and relative from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday evening at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 2:00PM Thursday , January 25, 2007 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Sam Spence of Lone Star Park Officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Jim Bynum, Johnny Boy Sims, Joe Wright, Gary Don Autrey, Hoyt Alexander, Dennis Brearly, Mitch Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayne McCollum and Horace Bratcher.
Arrangements are under the Direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
