Wilda C. Moir, a lifetime resident of Waxahachie, was born June 20, 1912 in Waxahachie to parents, William S. and Goldie Meharg Brickell. She married Raymond B. Moir in 1939 in Waxahachie.
Mrs. Moir attended Waxahachie public schools and Trinity University. She attended Cooke's Fine Art School in Dallas, graduating with highest honors and winning the school's silver loving cup for having the best diction in her class. She taught speech and drama in the schools of Midland, Bridgeport and Tyler. She was also Social Recreation Director for the City of Tyler. For several years she ran a private kindergarten and at Ferris Heights Methodist Church taught a pre-kindergarten class at Kylar's Kiddie Korner.
She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and the Ladies organization of the church.
She was active in voluntary work at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home and the Ellis County Emergency Clothing and Food Bank. She was also a member of the Optimist Mrs. Club. For graduation from Cooke's School she gave a rendition of the book, "Madam Butterfly."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond B. Moir, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Brickell and three sisters, Frances Howard, Helen Taylor, and Dorothy Eastman; and a son-in-law, Doss B. Graves.
She is survived by her son, Richard Raymond Moir and wife, Ann of Waxahachie; her daughter, Lynda Moir Graves of Waxahachie; one sister, Mary Sue Vandyke of Boulder, CO; her grandchildren, Luann Osmer and husband, Tony of Waxahachie; Derron Blake Tapp of Italy, Brandy Renee' O'Rear and husband, Tim of Hurst; great grandchildren, Tanner Blake Osmer, Lyndsey Leighann Osmer, Simon O'Rear and Megan Osmer; and 2 great great grandchildren.
She is also survived by 2 nephews, Mark L. Taylor and wife, Judy of Vans Nuys, CA, Todd Vandyke and wife, Susan of Lewisville, CO; 3 nieces, Martha Hays and husband, Bob of Sardis, Betty Eastman of Los Colinas, Patsy Worley and husband, Rusty of Melissa, Texas; and several great nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate her life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Rev. Anna Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillcrest Burial Park in Waxahachie.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
