Wesley Saunders

Wesley Eugene "Gene" Saunders, age 86 of Waxahachie, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 29, 2016. Gene was born on May 23, 1930, in Waxahachie to Elzie and Lottie Saunders. In 1948, he graduated from Waxahachie High School. He married his high school sweetheart, June Kirk Saunders, on June 11, 1949, in Waxahachie, Texas. He began his career as a chemist for the Southland Cottonseed Oil Company, and later joined Garrett Callahan Water Treatment Company as a salesman. In 1987, he opened WESCO Chemicals with his son, Kirk.

Gene was a faithful member of Farley Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee, and Sunday school superintendent for many years.

He is survived by June, his wife of 67 years, son, Kirk Saunders and wife, Jana, daughter Lisa Saunders Hinds and husband Clay, daughter-in-law, Monica Saunders, son-in-law Mack Seeton and wife, Becky, sister-n-law, Margie Saunders, brother-in-law Kenneth Kirk and wife, MaeDelle, brother-in-law Jerold Kirk and wife, Janic, and sister-in-law Helen Sims and husband, Johnny. Grandchildren: Scott Seeton, Greg Seeton and wife, Rona, Aaron Saunders and wife, Kelly, Lauren Saunders Chism and husband, Jeremy, Sarah Saunders, Annie Saunders Pevy and husband, Daniel, Nichole Saunders Weems, and husband, Chris, Emily Saunders and fiancé, Brett Scott, Jake Hinds and wife, Jessica, Katie Hinds, and Taylor Hinds. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Saunders Seeton, his son, Rick Saunders, his parents, and brother, Bob Saunders.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016, at 2:00 pm, at Farley Street Baptist Church. A private burial service will be held at a later date at the Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Farley Street Baptist Church in his memory.
