Wesley Payne

July 28, 1925 — January 27, 2015

Leonard Payne, 89 of Waxahachie, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late John W. Payne and Lucy E. Adams Payne on July 28, 1925 in Boz, Texas. Leonard served our country in the United States Army during WWII, serving in the Philippines and Japan. He retired from Capital Bank and enjoyed working in the banking industry. In his earlier years he loved to hunt and fish. Later in life he enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the ducks on the lake and teaching his grandchildren how to drive. Leonard was the life of the party, always telling a funny joke and was the best story teller. He loved small towns and enjoyed trips to Branson, MO. He will be missed and forever loved. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Doris Payne of Waxahachie; his daughter, Karen Ballard and her husband, David of Waxahachie; his grandchildren, Drew Ballard and his wife, Lori and Leah Dopler and her husband, Quay; his great grandchildren, Bryson Morgan and Jake Ballard; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Leonard is preceded in death by his sister, Catherine McGlathery. A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Hillcrest Burial Park with Rev. Eddie Ballard officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. www.waynebozefuneralhome.com
