Weldon Nokes, age 89
August 14, 1914

Mr. Nokes passed away Tuesday at Pleasant Manor Living Center. He was born in Corbett (near Corsicana) to W. C. and Bess (Lancaster) Nokes. He graduated from Corsicana High School. He and Thelma Faye Smith were married January 31, 1934 in Corsicana. Mr. Nokes joined the US Navy during WWII as a Seabee in the Pacific Theatre. He was employed with TPL as District Engineer for forty plus years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Ferris Heights United Methodist Church until the end of WWII at which time he transferred to First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Fidelis Class, served as Sunday School Superintendent and on numerous committees, was building chairman for the existing sanctuary, a member of the Waxahachie Optimist Club, and was active in all the downtown carnivals. Mr. Nokes loved to fish. He had been in Waxahachie since 1940, moving from Ennis.
He is survived by: his daughter, Pat Newton of Waxahachie; three brothers, Vernon Nokes of Houston, Carl Nokes and his wife Mary of Plains, and Robert Nokes of Deanvill, TX.; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Jerry Baker of Irving; sister-in-law, Frances Nokes of Santa Fe, NM; two great grandchildren, Chris and Cindy Newton of Weatherford and Bud and Paula Newton of Houston; six great grandchildren; one great great grandson born three hours after Weldoné�'s death. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Thursday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 2 PM Friday, December 19, 2003 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with VNA Chaplain, Mickey Loftis officiating. Pallbearers will be Dan Ed Morton, Wayne McCollum, Melvin Loveless, James Lewis, Chris Newton and Bud Newton. Interment will follow at Waxahachie City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to VNA Hospice, Kaufman, TX.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
