John Weldon Eckeberger, Age 78

Mr. Eckeberger passed away Tuesday morning at his home in Waxahachie. He was born in Ike, TX. to Jewel and Mattie Lee (Almand) Eckeberger. He attended schools in Ike, Sardis and Waxahachie. He and Joyce Lynn Ranton were married November 25, 1945 in Waxahachie. Mr. Eckeberger was self employed in sand and gravel for 59 years. In his early days, Weldon was a cowboy. He loved bulldogging, parades and Grand Entry. He tinkered with his equipment, metal work and animals. It has been said that he had the best sounding dump truck in Ellis County. Mr. Eckeberger was a member of the
South Prong Baptist Church.
Survivors are: his wife of 58 years, Joyce Eckeberger of Waxahachie; one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and LaDonna Sue Eckeberger of Ennis; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jack Lynn Eckeberger.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Thursday at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The family requests there be no visitors or meals at the house, and that all floral gifts be sent to the funeral home. The Celebration of Life will be 2 PM Friday, September 10, 2004 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Ted Brown, Chaplain, officiating. Pallbearers will be Ray Fenton, Lee Goodwin, Anthony Aleman, Joe Aleman, Glen Archer and Alvi Hollingsworth. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Tores and Darrell May. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
