Mr. Underwood passed away Wednesday night at Baylor Medical Center Dallas. He was born in Brady, TX. to M.E. and Pearl (Morris) Underwood. He graduated from Brady High School. He joined the US Army in 1947 serving in Germany where he met his wife. He married Margareta Trautner on November 7, 1947 in Streitberg, Germany. In May of 1964, they came back to the United States after numerous tours in Germany. Mr. Underwood was the ROTC Instructor at Tarleton State College in Stephenville and taught military ROTC and map tactics at UT in Arlington. He retired in June of 1968, then moved to Albuquerque, NM operating Underwood's BarBQ; moving to Waxahachie in 1971 to operate Underwood's BarBQ at Kaufman and Main. He took his second retirement in 1986 and worked for Super Shuttle at DFW Airport until retiring in 2004. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Mr. Underwood was a member of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by: his wife, Margareta Trautner Underwood of Waxahachie; sons, Johnny Paul Underwood of Ft. Worth and Michael Gene Underwood and wife Cindy of Knoxville, TN.; daughters, Gloria Frances Brown and husband Jerry Don of Garland, Susan Underwood Aston of Dallas and Cathy Burks and husband Ken of Salina; brothers, Millard Underwood and wife Toni of Garland, Dr. H. L. Underwood of Huntsville, Morris Underwood and wife Jackie of Sweetwater, Delton Underwood of McKinney and Leonard Underwood and wife Mary Jo of Brownwood; eight grand children and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Memorial Services will be 10 AM Wednesday, April 6, 2005 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Zimmerman officiating.
