Walter Szymczak

April 29, 1926 — December 8, 2013

Walter Szymczak, Sr., 87 of Waxahachie died on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Buffalo Creek Assisted Living Center in Waxahachie. He was born on April 29, 1926 in Broniszewo, Poland, the son of the late Ludwik and Sally Szymczak. He was a graduate of Elyria High School, Elyria, Ohio. Walter was a World War II veteran having enlisted in the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Tryon PH1, an evacuation hospital ship, at locations thoughout the Pacific including the Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Bougainville, Gilbert Islands, New Hebrides, New Zealand, Australia, New Guinea, the Mariannas, Saipan, Tinian, Tahiti, Figi Islands, Guadacanal, Hawaiian Islands, Palau Islands, Tonga Islands and Leyte in the Philippines. After two years oversees, he returned to the U. S. and served aboard the USS Shenandoah, a destroyer tender AD26, as a member of the original crew. After the war he worked at General Industries, Elyria, Ohio and upon retirement he moved to Waxahachie, Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Millie Szymczak "Nee Ondo", who passed away December 10, 2004; brothers, Chester and Henry Szymczak; sisters, Irene and Sophie Szymczak. He is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Jarzembak; two sons, Wally (Debbie) Szymczak and John (Diane) Szymczak, all of Waxahachie; a sister, Mary Buck of Lakeland, FL; 7 grandchildren, Lori Jarzembak, Matt Jarzembak, David Szymczak, Steven Szymczak, Kevin (Amanda) Szymczak, Dale Denemark and Jamie Weaver; and one great grandson, Lee Jarzembak; as well as many nieces and nephews. Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Ennis. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
