Walter Mathis

Walter Lee Mathis, 78 of Red Oak, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at his residence. He was born to the late W. L. and Georgie Brown Mathis on June 30, 1933 in El Cintro, CA. Walter loved playing and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved painting and was a very giving person. Walter retired as an electrician. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Shirley Mathis of Red Oak; his children, Walter Mathis, Jr. and his wife, Patsy of Stafford, VA, David Mathis and his wife, Suvi of Red Oak, Lori Bruning of Waxahachie, Jerry Mathis and his wife Trish of Caldwell, Diana Carter and her husband, Adrian of Irving; his brothers, Jerry Don Mathis and his wife, Pat of Onalaska, Texas, Glen Mathis and his wife, Barbara of Denair, CA; his sisters, Alene Cunningham and her husband, Bill of Crosby, Texas, Linda Kay Smith and her husband, Kenneth of Rockne, Texas; his 7grandchildren, Nicklaus Pack, Monica Pack, Nathanual Bruning, Kimberly Plapp, Amy Mathis, Cindy Mathis, Matthew Mathis, Amy Nguyen, Paul Signs; 9 great grandchildren, Chase Wells, Paityn Pack, Jaxson Pack, Preslee Pack, Braxton Pack, Bryson Mathis, Leo Walter Mathis, Mason Nguyen and Ryland Nguyen. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin Mathis and Bobby Mathis; his sister, Thurzia Corker; his parents; also by his first wife, Marjorie Mathis; and his daughter, Deborah Mathis. Services to celebrate Walter's life are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Grimes officiating. A graveside service with military honors is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie.
