W. C. "Pic" Mauldin, born September 10, 1940 to Ray Clyde (Pick) and Juanita Rose Binkley Mauldin in Waxahachie, passed away Friday, July 7, 2006, at Baylor Medical Center, Dallas.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Italy. He is survived by his wife, Iva Mauldin of Italy, Texas. Also surviving are three daughters; Landa Mauldin Parker and husband Paul Parker of Coppell, TX, Shari Everett Phillips and husband David Phillips of Waxahachie, TX, and Robin Everett of Dallas, Tx.. One son, Michael Everett and wife, Melanie Everett of Italy, TX, one sister Nita Terry and husband Bob Terry of Red Oak, TX, one granddaughter, Traci Phillips, four grandson, Adam Parker, Brad Parker, Justin Phillips and Garrett Everett; special "adopted" son, Ray Walker of Wyoming; six aunts and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; a step-brother, Lynn Lawson and wife Diane Lawson of Mansfield, TX; a step-sister Janice Mauldin of Waxahachie, TX., and family friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, mother, father, one brother, David Mauldin, a niece Valerie Kay Mauldin, and several aunts and uncles.
A native of Italy, Texas, Pic graduated from Navarro Junior College and earned a degree in business from Arlington State College in 1962. Pic also lived in Arlington, Lewisville, and Sugerland, Texas. After a twenty year career with Brachs Candy Company, Pic retired and moved back to Italy, Texas to farm. He found a new opportunity and purchased the Dairy Queen of Italy in 1984, which he still owned at the time of his death. Pic's family looks forward to many more years as the owner and operator of the Dairy Queen of Italy.
In 1986, Pic married Iva Everett, and they celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary on June 21, 2006.
Pic was an avid car enthusiast, owning several car racing teams, including top fuel dragsters, nostalgia class dragsters, sprint cars, and midget cars. After taking a break from car racing, Pic and his racing buddies reassembled the racing team and built and raced a nostalgia class dragster, which they owned at the time of his death. Pic rarely missed an opportunity to attend drag races and spent countless hours discussing cars and racing with his children, grandsons, and friends.
Pic was active in the community. He was a former city councilman of Italy, Texas; he was in charge of the semi-monthly Bingo games at the Italy Nursing Home; he gave candy to the residents of the State School in Denton; and he had been active in the Jaycees. Pic also sponsored numerous local youth and community activities.
Pic never met a stranger. A quick stop at the Dairy Queen could turn into a lengthy discussion with Pic. He had friends throughout the United States. During family vacations across the country, Pic invariably ran into someone he knew.
Pic had numerous friends, a large extended family, and received numerous awards and accolades throughout his life, but he was most proud of one title, the title of Grandad. Pic adored his grandchildren and was never shy about bragging about each one to anybody who would listen.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6-8 PM, Monday, July 10th at the Italy Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home, 161 W Main St., Italy, TX. The Celebration of life will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, July 11th at Central Baptist Church, Italy, Texas, with Pastor Joe Chambliss officiating. Interment will follow at Italy Cemetery.
