Vivian Brewer, age 89

Mrs. Brewer passed away Friday morning at the Ennis Regional Hospital.

Born near Sardis, Texas, on Feb. 12, 1915, Vivian Brewer was 89 when she passed into the hands of the Lord on April 14, 2006 at the Ennis Regional Clinic in Ennis, Texas. Born the oldest child of Howard and Tinny Prather, dairy farmers in Waxahachie, she and her siblings, William Edward (Edwin), Ewell Madison (Son), and sister, Mary Lou (Stroope), were given a good deal of responsibility at an early age helping their parents with the rigorous schedule required in maintaining the dairy operation. The get-to-work attitude instilled in her during these formative years served her well, and she imparted to her children her beliefs in God, the value of work, business integrity, and meticulous attention to matters of responsibility.

Married for 62 years to M. T. Brewer, a 34-year Southern Pacific railroad employee who worked all over Texas as an extra-board man until becoming a full-time switchman in Dallas, they lived together at their home in Ennis until his death in November 1998. In 2001, Vivian moved from her home and became a resident at the Odd Fellows & Rebekah Retirement Center in Ennis. She was always happy at the retirement center and loved her caregivers and the friends she knew and made there.

Vivian Brewer was an avidly religious, exemplary mother of three. As a true believer in the bible's teachings and in the surety of the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ, she talked the talk and walked the walk. She was well known among the congregation of the Baylor Baptist Church in Ennis, where she attended regularly until her inability to drive made it impossible. Though she was unable to meet with her beloved friends at their church home, her faith was undiminished, and she attended regular services at the retirement center until her death.

Having lived most of her adult life in Ennis, and as an avon representative for years, Vivian was well known by many of the local residents. She was a sincere, caring person who always shared anything she had with anyone less fortunate, even when scarcity made doing so a real sacrifice. Her contributions to the church were made no matter what else had to be done or what else had to be put off. All of her friends and family members received all the love, help, advice, sympathy, and consolation she could provide. Selflessness and faith in God were the hallmarks of her character, and charity and affection for her fellow man were her stock in trade. She was deeply loved during her lifetime, and will be deeply missed in passing, by all those who were touched by her kindness.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara A. Boyd, of Waxahachie, Texas; sons, Bill C Brewer of Lancaster, Texas; and Marcus Brewer of Buda, Texas; grandchildren, Steven Brewer of North Richland Hills, Phillip Brewer of Dallas, and Rebecca Little of Arlington, Texas; Chris Boyd of Frisco, and Carol Saunders of Roanoke, Texas; great-grandchildren, Erin and Amy Brewer of Ennis, Texas, Sara Brewer of New Castle, Delaware, Lauren and Ryan Brewer of North Richland Hills, Texas, Aaron and Amethyst Brewer of Arlington, Texas, and N.icolas and Matthew Boyd of Plano, Texas.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, April 16, 2006, from 6PM to 8PM at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home, 1826 W Hwy 287 Business, in Waxahachie, Texas. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 17, 2006 at 2 PM in the chapel at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home,. with Reverend Johnny Mansell of Baylor Baptist Church in Ennis officiating. Interment will be a short distance away next to her departed husband and family members in the Sardis Cemetery.
