Mrs. Tate, a lifetime Waxahachie resident, passed away Tuesday at Baylor Medical Center, Waxahachie. She was born in Waxahachie to Lena Pearl and J. H. Peavler. She married John Callaway "Jodie" Tate in 1938. They resided on the family farm at Forreston, Texas. She was in the retail dress business in Waxahachie for more than forty years, and after retirement was very active in caring for the elderly in Waxahachie. Virginia was a member of the Forreston Baptist Church. Her love was garage sales, rummage sales and estate sales. She was forever giving of her love and possessions.

She is survived by: daughter, Sue Wray of Taylors, SC.; granddaughter, Susan Wray Charping and husband, Eric, and great-grandson, Tate Charping all of Rossville, TN; grand daughter, Ashley Wray of Charleston, SC; grandson, Nick Wray of Anderson, SC; son, Paul Tate and wife Erin of Dallas; grandson, Doug Tate and wife Alexandra of San Antonio, TX; granddaughters, Christie Tate of Chicago, IL, and Caroline Tate and her fiancé Brian Gagliardi of Austin, TX.; brother-in-law, James B. "Bugs" Tate and wife Zelda of DeSoto, TX.; numerous nieces and nephews; special care-giver and friend Carolyn Cox; a host of cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and all of her nine siblings.

The family will receive friends and relatives 7-9 PM Thursday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie, TX. The Celebration of Life will be 10 AM Friday, July 25, 2003 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers will be Carl Ballard, Mike Peavler, Jerry Morris, Kyle Tate, Darrell Lane Tate, Gene Mitchell and Leland Calvert. Honorary pallbearers will be Ophelia Esparza, Eugenia Rodriguez, Alvarena Carter, Myrle Dawson, Ann Doyle, Naomi Martinez, Myrelle Schechter and Lola Ballard.
Interment will follow in Forreston Cemetery, Forreston, TX.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Forreston Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
