Violette Miller Gray

Mrs. Gray died peacefully in her Waxahachie home Saturday, June 28. She was born in Warsaw, IN. to Reverend John Wesley and Lizzie (Stookey) Miller. She was 100 years old. Mrs. Gray attended school in Winona Lake, IN. and was a graduate of Indiana Central College (now Indianapolis College). She was the widow of Howard B. Gray who died in 1997. Mrs. Gray was active in civic organizations and the First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg. She was the recipient of an Honorary Life Membership in the Presbyterian Women of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Following her husband's death in 1997, Voilette moved to Waxahachie to be with her son, Dean. She is survived by her son, daughter-in-law Bettie; four grandchildren, David Gray, Andy Gray, Peter Gray and Ann Dembinski; four great grandchildren, Dinah, Joshua, Jacob and Bethany. She was preceded in death her parents, as well as her husband.

Visitation was 5-7 PM Wednesday at Riles Funeral Home, Vicksburg, MS. and 10 AM Thursday, July 3, 2003 until the hour of the service at First Presbyterian Church/Ward Hall. Funeral services were 11 AM Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Steve Bryant officiating. Pallbearers were Dr. Tom Mitchell, Dr. Waverley Artz, Gene Wylie, Robert W. Cunny, Kenneth Halford, Bobby Robinson, Gerald Turnage and William H. Larson. Interment was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Vicksburg.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1501 Cherry Street, Vicksburg, MS. 39180.
