Viola Pearl Rodgers, age 95

Viola Pearl (Owens) Rodgers went to be with her Lord February 5, 2006. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was born to Walker and Susie Owens December 11, 1910 in Bingen, AR. The family moved from Arkansas to Texas when she was 13 years old. She married Willie Roy Rodgers February 24, 1934 who preceded her
in death June 29, 1964. She was a member of Farley Street Baptist Church 69 years and had a great love for her Church family. She was very active in the church until her health failed and she moved to Duncanville. She was a sixty plus year member in the Waxahachie Rebekah lodge where she had been through the chairs more than once, received the Decoration of Chivalry, was District Deputy and Lodge Deputy and on the Drill team. She was a 47 year member of the Waxahachie Eastern Star Chapter and was Worthy Matron twice. She loved both the Rebekahs and Easter Star and was living at the Masonic Retirement Center in Arlington at the time of her death.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Gerald Rodgers, one granddaughter, one great grand son, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She is survived by daughters, Juanita Swafford of Duncanville, Annetta Humphries of Waxahachie, one son, Wilbur Rodgers of Ennis, daughter-in-law, Mary Rodgers; Grandchildren, Glenn Swafford of Duncanville, Ronald Swafford of Austin, Valarie Austin and husband Chris of Duncanville, LaNita LaFon and husband Mark of Lubbock, Larry Humphries of Arlington, William Rodgers of Waxahachie, Elizabeth Kizer and husband Chad of San Antonio, Kristy Allred of Waxahachie, John Rodgers and wife Lauri of Waxahachie, eleven great grandchildren, two brothers, Jim Owens of Montford, TN. and B. W. Owens, Jr. of Waxahachie, one sister, Martha Kelley of Waxahachie, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting a memorial be made to the Farley Street Baptist Church building fund. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Thursday, February 9, 2006, at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.. The Celebration of Life will be 10 AM Friday, February 10, 2006 at the Farley Street Baptist Church, Waxahachie, with Brother Richard Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons: Glenn Swafford, Mark LaFon, John Rodgers, Ronald Swafford, Larry Humphries, William Rodgers, Dustin LaFon, Christopher Austin, Sr., and Christopher Austin, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be deacons of the Farley Street Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Burial Park.
There will be a big void in all our lives as she was such a lovely, caring, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
