Victor Batson was a child of the Great Depression. His family was large and there were many mouths to feed, but love was abundant and family mattered more than any possession on earth. This devotion to family was the guiding principle followed by his parents and upon which Victor lived his entire life. He always held love and duty paramount over ambition or greed for material goods. He worked long and hard to provide for his family and in this he was successful. He helped his parents and siblings when he could. And after he married and had his three children he did his best to care for them. His love for others extended beyond the bounds of blood for he was a friend to one and all. His kindness and courtly manners were evident until the very end. He loved and was loved in return and he will be missed. Victor had a lifelong passion for all things wood. He learned to build furniture after returning from service in the Army in Germany during the early fifties. He had a remarkable collection of woodworking tools and could build even the most complicated piece of furniture, although his taste ran toward simple Americana pieces. In addition to his own woodworking skills, he was an avid antique collector and admired the handiwork of others. He was often found at auctions and sales, always looking for a little piece of history to bring home and put on display. He was fortunate to be able to retire young enough that he could devote many years to this much loved hobby. Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 2:00 PM Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Batson officiating.
