Veronica Roginski Wyckoff Veronica Roginski Wyckoff, known to her family and friends as "Nicky" and Ronnie," was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Staten Island, N.Y., to Polish immigrants Thomas and Mary Roginski. She attended PS14 and graduated from Curtis High School in Staten Island. She then attended business school and became a secretary in the buyer's office of Montgomery Wards, while also working as a model. She met her future husband, C. Robert Wyckoff Jr., a third engineer, at a Merchant Marines Club on Staten Island. The couple married June 11, 1945, and moved to Kansas City, Mo., when he took a job as a national sales manager for the Norton Company. Through the years, the family resided in locations from California to Dallas to upstate New York. While in Dallas, she and her husband were founding members of the Knights of Columbus. The couple had three sons: Robert Thomas Wyckoff (two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren); Richard Lee Wyckoff, (three granddaughters and one great granddaughter); and John William Wyckoff (one grandson). C. Robert Wyckoff Jr. passed away Oct. 1, 1976, when they were residing in Shrewsbury, Mass. Her husband was "the love of my life," according to Veronica Wyckoff, who moved to Garland, Texas, after he passed. There, she worked part-time at Sterlings Jewelry Company and also took care of two of her granddaughters. In 1993, she moved to Germantown, Tenn., where she retired, moving in 2008 to Waxahachie, Texas, where she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a homemaker most of her life and her family will remember her quick wit and dry sense of humor - as well as her Swedish meatballs and banana nut bread, favorite dishes she would prepare. Her interests included dancing, bingo and music by such singers as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Andy Williams. A favorite story she loved to tell was of how she and a group of her high school classmates skipped school one day to go see Frank Sinatra. She also delighted in teaching her granddaughters the song, "Barefoot Days," which she said first sang on stage at about age 8. Veronica Wyckoff loved sports. She was a member of the 1939-40 Staten Island P.A.L. Basketball Championship Team and later took up golf, which she played with her husband. Her favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Mavericks. Already passing were her parents, three brothers and sisters. She has a sister, Eleanor Szalc of New Jersey. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Waxahachie. Veronica Wyckoff asked, in lieu of flowers, that memorials be given to the "The Gingerbread House" (Ellis County Children's Advocacy Center, Inc.), 425 E. Ross Street, Waxahachie, Texas, 75165. www.waynebozefuneralhome.com
