Van Lee Zandt, 65 of Waxahachie, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 in a Dallas hospital. He was born to the late Earl E. and Kathryn J. Holder Zandt on November 1, 1948 in Canton, OH. Van graduated from Irving High School in 1966 where he was captain of the baseball team. He attended the Texas A&M University and was a member of the Aggie Corp of Cadets and a member of the Aggie Baseball team. He also attended the University of Texas at Arlington. Van was a veteran, serving our Country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He worked in the freight industry in management from 1974 and became an independent contractor in 1994. Van enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to hunt, fish and golf and also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Van attended the Cowboy Church of Ellis County for 3 years and really felt at home there. He and his wife Sharon, were residents of Waxahachie for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sharon Zandt of Waxahachie; his sons, Erick and his wife, Jennifer of Waxahachie, Derek and his wife Hillary of Waxahachie; his brother, Scott Zandt and his wife, Cheryl of Southlake; his sister, Carla Lear and her husband, Kevin of Irving; and also by his grandchildren, Madison, Jaxon, Hannah and Hayden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl E. Zandt and Kathryn J. Zandt. A memorial service to celebrate Van's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Cowboy Church of Ellis County, 2374 US Hwy 287, Waxahachie, Texas.
