Mr. Garrick passed away Wednesday morning at his Italy residence. He was born in Seminole, OK. to Russell A. and Ernest Pearl (Barhan) Garrick. His family moved to Texas when he was a baby and raised him in the Dallas area. He joined the US Marine Corp in 1950 serving in Korea and being awarded 2 purple hearts. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Val and Carolyn Hankins were married January 31, 1953 in Dallas. They moved from Dallas to Italy in 1983. He was employed with Coca Cola as a Route Distributor in downtown Dallas before joining the Dallas Fire Department in 1955. After retiring on January 31, 1987, he worked 12 years for the Red Oak Golf Course. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, boating, skiing and golfing. He was of the Catholic faith.
His survivors include: his wife, Carolyn Sue Garrick; son, Robert Russell Garrick; daughter, Suzann Garrick Hyles and husband Mike, all of Italy; sister, Mary Jane Faulkenberry of Rogers, AR.; five grandchildren, Scott Garrick of Dallas, Amy Roberts of Mansfield, Matt Garrick of Duncanville, Casey Hyles Holden and Garrick Hyles both of Italy; and three great grandchildren, Jase and Jenna Holden both of Italy, Reid Roberts of Mansfield, sister-in-law, Jean Kelley and husband Larry of Ft. Worth. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Barton Garrick and Arthur Atkinson; and three sisters.
Mr. Garrick will lie in state NOON-9 PM Saturday with visitation 6-8 PM Saturday, February 25, 2006 in the Italy Chapel, 161 W. Main, Italy, TX. 76651. The Celebration of his Life will be 3 PM Sunday, February 26, 2006, also in the Italy Chapel, with Chaplain David Smith of the Dallas Fire Department officiating. Pallbearers will be Casey Gage, Mason Reedes, Mike Hyles, Jeff Hyles, Charles Hyles and Scott Hyles.
Interment will be 12 NOON, Tuesday, February 28, in the DFW National Cemetery, Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Ellis County Military Moms or the George Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Italy High School.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
