Tom A. Turner Tom was born on August 24, 1942 in Kiomatia, Red River County, Texas to Clovis Herbert "Jack" Turner and Edith Mae Smith Turner. He was the youngest of four children: Billy Frank, Alice Ruth, Jackie Beth, and Tom Allen. Tom grew up in and around Paris, Blossom, Port Arthur, and the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. He graduated from Oak Cliff High School in 1961. Dad worked in various occupations to include as a salesman with Nabisco. He also owned his own office supply, insulation, and printing businesses. Tom was married in 1961 to Betty Jean Glass and they had three children together: Troy Allen, Eric Barton, and Leslie Linn. In 1983 Tom married Vickie Spano and they remained married for the remainder of his life. Tom was extremely creative throughout his lifetime. His creativity exhibited itself through many mediums to include writing poetry and short stories, drawing, molding pewter, and woodcraft. Many of the items he created can be seen throughout his and Vickie's home. In 1983, he was awarded 2nd place in a national poetry contest sponsored by Parade Magazine. He embodied the words of the Danish comedian, Victor Borge who said, "The smile is the shortest distance between two people." Tom enjoyed making people smile and laugh and he endeared himself through that ability to connect with people from many walks of life. Services to celebrate Tom's life are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Edgewood Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Tomorrow by Tom A.
