Absent from the body, present with the Lord.
Thomas Earl "Tom" Wellborn, age 70 of Midlothian, TX, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, May 10, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Tom passed away in the comfort of his home.
Tom was born April 21, 1939. He graduated from Glen Rose High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 to 1963, where he received Marksman Qualification and was honorably discharged. He worked in the cement and steel manufacturing business the majority of his career. He retired in June 2004 after working 11 years for the Midlothian ISD Transportation Department.
Tom was a seasoned and respected antique clocksmith. He loved working on clocks, shopping for, collecting and restoring antiques, hunting, traveling, cooking, and most of all spending time with his family and friends. Tom embraced the joys and sorrows of his life with faith and courage. He was witty, possessed a tremendous loving nature and will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the Midlothian Bible Church and Ambassadors Sunday school Class.
He was the son of the late William Wayne Wellborn and Regina Hayes Wellborn of Iredell, TX and the son-in-law of the late Billie G. Burleson and Wastell Few Burleson of Midlothian, TX.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 48 years, Carolyn Burleson Wellborn. His children, Ronda Wellborn of Midlothian; Michael Wellborn and daughter-in-law Lindy of Kerrville, TX. Grandchildren Brandon Barker of Midlothian, Raja Donawho and husband Paul of Maypearl, TX, Vivian Wellborn, Jeorgia Wellborn, and Hazel Wellborn of Kerrville, TX. Great-grandchildren, Garrett Bray, Ashley Donawho both of Maypearl, TX, Amber Donawho of Aledo, TX, Olivia Barker, and Avery Barker both of Milano, TX. Sister Janie Herrin and husband Ronnie of Iredell, TX. Sisters and brothers-in-laws Nancy Farr and husband Dwain of Grand Prairie, TX and Juanice Nicholson and husband Bill of Cedar Hill, TX
Tom is also survived by the following nieces, nephews: Clint Herrin of Corpus Christi, TX, Cheryl Hobbs and husband Jerry of Stephenville, TX, Paula Waters and husband Mark of Lindale, TX, Cynda Cottrill and husband Scott of Westminster, CO, Tracy Farr and wife Susan of Mount Pleasant, TX, Jaclyn Coulston and husband Chris of Ovilla, TX, and Scott Farr and wife Candi of Pilot Point, TX and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2009 at the Midlothian Bible Church with Dr. Dave Wyrtzen officiating. Interment and military honors will be held at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2009 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Hudson, Dr. Barry Wilcox, the Lighted Pathways Hospice team for their compassion and excellent care. The family also thanks the Midlothian Bible Church family, Ambassador Sunday School Class,
