Thomas Alvin Mathers (Tommy) went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 24, 2016. He was born November 9, 1935 to Alvin & Madge Mathers in Maypearl where he grew up and spent most of his life. He married JoAnn Curts on July 26, 1957. Tommy served in the Texas National Guard Army for 11 years. He retired from NCR after 34 years of service. Tommy was always involved and active in his community, serving on various boards and committees. He loved the Lord, his family and friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maypearl where he served as a Deacon and had taught Sunday School. Following retirement, Tommy spent much of his time helping others. He was a talented carpenter, helping with many projects for friends and family.
Tommy leaves behind his wife and best friend of 58 years, JoAnn Mathers. Also survived are his sons, Rodney Mathers and wife Lana, Eddy Mathers and wife Debbie, and Greg Mathers and his wife, Patti, all of Maypearl; and daughter, Laurie Montanez and husband Dwain of Bulverde, Tx. Also survived are grandchildren, Amanda Williams and husband Colby; Chelsea Mathers, Stephen Evans and wife Kelli, Kathy Wiggins, Cheyenne Montanez, Lindsey Wittenberg and husband Ben, Garrett Mathers, Katelyn Mathers, Madison Mathers and Mason Mathers; along with 4 Great Grandchildren, Lyberti and Lynlee Evans, Landry Wittenberg and Avery Williams; Brother Johnny Mathers and wife, Louise, sisters Joyce Harris and husband Roy and Ruth Ford; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Alvin & Madge Mathers and brother Billy Mathers.
Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Maypearl, Texas with Rev. Tony Sheffield and Rev. Paul Mason officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Branch Cemetery in Maypearl. Pallbearers will be Jon Mathers, Jodi Mathers, Kenneth Mathers, Garry Harris, Glen Harris, Walter Dale Buckner, Randy Ford and Larry Ford; Honorary Pallbearers will be Norman Ellis, Nor Wade, James Richards, Kregg Vogel, Larry Burns and David LaRue.
Visitation with the family is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie.
