Gerald Ted Johnson was born October 8, 1951, in Henderson, TX. to Benton and Anna Johnson. He is survived by his loving, caring, and devoted wife Theresa Johnson of Red Oak, TX.; son, Tim Johnson and wife Jenny; and daughter, Tiphany Hood and husband Andy, all of Waxahachie. He was Papa to Kaleigh and Skylar Johnson, and Drue and Tyce Hood , all of Waxahachie is also survived by two brothers, Lee Johnson and wife Nell of Marshall, TX., James Johnson and wife Becky of FL., and one sister, Joy Hand and husband Billy of Henderson, TX. Ted also has several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Benton and Anna Johnson.
Heattended school at Jacksonville Baptist College and the University of Texas at Arlington graduating with a Masters Degree in Social Work. Ted surrendered to the ministry at the age of 11 and began preaching youth revivals and later pasturing several churches in Texas. Ted worked for the Texas Baptist Home for Children for over 22 years, serving the last ten years as President. The Lord used Ted in this ministry to touch the lives of many children and families. Ted implemented many programs at the TBHC including Change for Children, Hannah's Ministry, and Mom and Me. Under his leadership, TBHC began placing children in foster homes and some adoptions. Ted then worked at FBC of Red Oak, serving as pastor of family ministries for four years. Ted also worked with Michael Brown at SkillsNET to develop the SkillsNET Foundation which helped other charitable organizations develop their work force, enhance their operations, and advance their mission.

Ted had many hobbies, including a love for books, movies, and history. He loved to spend time with his family, especially with his grandkids, who gave him his greatest joy.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 16th from 5 PM-7PM at the Red Oak Funeral Home, 120 N. Hwy. 342, Red Oak. Funeral services will be Monday, November 17, 2008 at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church of Red Oak, 320 E. Ovilla Rd. Graveside services will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Texas Baptist Home for Children in Waxahachie.
