Sybil Elaine Condor, age 93, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2017. She was born on October 9, 1923 to George Washington Willis and Sylvia Mae Clem Willis in Alma, Texas. She was the Valedictorian of her high school graduating class and attended Trinity University, which is now known as Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas.
Sybil married Herbert "Red" Condor, Sr. on February 11, 1943. She is survived by her children, Bruce Condor and wife, Nita, of Waxahachie, Brian Condor and wife, Debbie, of Wylie and Becky Kubala and husband, Richard, of Waxahachie. She is also survived by a sister, Sandra Bassinger and husband, Jerry, of Garland, 4 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, George Washington "Dub" Willis, Jr., an infant brother, daughter-in-law, Pamela Condor, and a great-granddaughter, Savannah Loper.
Sybil started the first day care in Waxahachie in November 1963 when she realized that there was a great need for quality child care for children of working parents. When mothers would come into the daycare after a long day's work they would comment on the wonderful smells coming from the kitchen from the evening meals she was making for her family. Her compassion and love for children is still being carried on today after 3 generations through Condor Child Care in Waxahachie. She was also one of the first employers in Waxahachie to hire high school students through the high school work program, HECE. Sybil loved to go fishing and many times there was a contest between family members on who could catch the largest and most fish.
Sybil was a member of Farley Street Baptist Church where she attended the Esther Sunday School class for many decades. For several years she directed Condor's Kindergarten at Farley Street.
Mother, Momma and Nana, as she was called, loved to play the piano. She learned to play by ear due to the piano being on a screened in porch and her mother having her practice in the evening after dark. As a small child, different churches in the area would ask her to play for their services and this lead to her giving piano lessons, playing for the daycare, the children's church and also the church services.
Visitation is Tuesday, March 21st from 7-9 pm at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The funeral service is Wednesday, March 22nd at 10 am at Farley Street Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Smith officiating. Burial is at Bells Chapel Cemetery in Rockett. Pallbearers are Robert Condor, Bobby Glass, Jerry Bassinger, Monty Duncan, Mike Willis and Hunter Glass. Donations can be made to the Texas Baptist Home for Children.
The family would like to thank the staff of Legend Oaks Healthcare for their exceptional care. Heaven has gained an angel. Although our hearts are broken and we will miss her terribly, we know she is in such a better place.
