Sue Farrar Evans

Sue Farrar Evans of Palmer went peacefully to her home in Heaven on January 3, 2005 following a brief illness. She was born September 18, 1914 at Palmer to Charles F. and Eva L. Brown Farrar. After graduation from Palmer High School in 1932, she attended both Trinity University in Waxahachie and Texas Woman's University in Denton. Sue married Ralph L. Evans on June 8, 1937 in her parent's home near Palmer-where she has lived since her retirement.
During World War II, Sue was employed by North American Aviation in Grand Prairie and Waco and National Gypsum Company in McGregor. While living in Corsicana immediately after the war, she worked for Navarro County Public Schools and Navarro County Electric Cooperative. In addition, she later worked for the U. S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. and the Army Corps of Engineers in Dallas.
A remarkable lady, Sue maintained her independence until her death. On September 18, 2004, her family observed her 90th birthday in the back yard of her home with a catered luncheon. Sue Evans had also kept herself involved in the things that were important to her. She was active in the First Christian Church of Palmer, the Palmer Preservation Society, the Palmer Study Club, the Palmer Garden Club, Smith Cemetery Association and the Ellis County Historical Commission. She also belonged to the National Society Magna Charta Dames and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Charles F. and Eva L. Farrar; her husband, Ralph Evans; her sister, Ruth Farrar; her brotherand sister-in-law,Randall and Mary E. Farrar; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, R.D. and Marcreta Rawlings; and nephews Glen Brader and Nick Evans.
She is survived by brothers-in-law Dell Evans and wife Virginia of Paso Robles, CA.; Dwain Evans and wife Barbara of Houston, TX.; and sister-in-law Faye Brader and husband Jerry of Georgetown, TX. Surviving also are nephews Edwin Farrar and wife Carol of Waxahachie, TX.; Bryce Carrington and wife Pat of El Paso, TX.; Jack Carrington and wife Danna of Gainesville, GA.; nieces, Stephanie Evans of Houston, TX.; Lisa Nicholls and husband Michael of Sugar Land, TX.; Kathy Evans of Houston, TX.; Karen Hall and husband Larry of San Jose, CA.; Marcia Inman and husband Kris of Georgetown, TX.; close cousin, Harold Farrar of Dallas plus numerous great and great-great nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Thursday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 10 AM Friday, January 7, 2005 at the First Christian Church in Palmer with Pastor C. D. Haun and Reverend Gary Bronson officiating. Pallbearers will be Edwin Farrar, Jack Carrington, Bryce Carrington, Louis Farrar, Eric Farrar and David Farrar. Honorary Pallbearers will be Harold Farrar, Dell Evans, Dwain Evans, Jerry Brader, Billy Oates and Ed Prude. Interment will follow at Smith Cemetery, Rockett, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Smith Cemetery Association, 1020 Farrar Road, Waxahachie, TX., 75165 or the First Christian Church, P.O.Box 312, Palmer, TX. 75152.
