Steven Hopgood

Steve Hopgood, 62 of Waxahachie, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Melvin and Gertie Hopgood in Waxahachie on August 12, 1955.

Steve graduated from Maypearl High School in 1973. He married the love of his life, Betty Wilburn, on October 11, 1974. He retired from Owens Corning in 2016 after 43 years of employment. Steve continually stayed busy. He was always kind to everyone and was always willing to help anyone in need. The one thing he was most proud of and loved the most was his family, his God and his church. He was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church of Waxahachie. Steve was a good man, a great father, and a good loving husband. He always put his family first before his own needs and was a good provider. He will be greatly missed and continually loved by all who knew him and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his daughters, Stephanie Hopgood and Pamela Olson and her husband, Joshua; his brothers, Eddie Hopgood and his wife, Kathleen, Terry Hopgood and his wife, Jeorgia, Jerry Hopgood and his wife, Allison; his sisters, Sue Jackson and Rose Stegall and her husband, Mark; his mother-in-law, Mary Wilburn; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Art Haffey; and many nieces, nephews, and great friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Melvin and Gertie Hopgood; his brother, George Hopgood; his sister, Cathie Brisendine; his brother-in-law, Eddy Jackson; and also by his father-in-law, Travis Wilburn.

Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Heritage Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Bradley officiating. Interment will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
