Stephen Tunnell

October 23, 1927 — February 4, 2016

Stephen Edward Tunnell, Jr. aka Papaw had celebrated his 88th birthday this past fall. Born in Amery MS. Oct 23, 1927 to Steve Tunnell, Sr. Myrtle Idella Jones Tunnell. He lived in Birmingham AL as a teenager, was a professional musician starting at age 13 and followed his love of music going into the Airforce Band. After an honorable discharge he worked as band leader for Birmingham Home for Boys. Thereafter he worked with his dear Aunt Chloe selling childrens clothing. It was during this time he met Audra Floyd, the love of his life and they wed in 1957. Steve worked for Carnation Milk and Brock Candy Companies alongside Ted Hope Wynn Ramsey. In 1977 Steve started Steve Tunnell Son Construction company along with his son building many beautiful dream homes in and around Dallas and Ellis Counties.
Steve left this earth February 4, 2016, he was predeceased by his wife Audra F. Tunnell. He is survived by his sweet sisters Mimi Simmons and Shirley Eubank, his only son, Steve Tunnell, III and wife Annette Tunnell. His grandchildren are Ashley Tunnell Waits and Stephen E. Tunnell IV. Ashleys husband Ben and children Abigail and Wesley Waits. He will be missed by so many relatives, dear friends in Waxahachie and especially at First Baptist Church. His joyful voice and whistling lyrics will be greatly missed by those who loved him and were lifted by his encouraging walk of faith.
Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday, February 12, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Waxahachie with Dr. Leroy Fenton officiating. Interment will follow at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
