Staci Lynn Miller, 67 of Austin, Texas, passed away unexpectedly December 3, 2024, while visiting family.
She was the loving mother to Kyle Boyd (Michelle) and Bret Boyd. Raising her boys was her greatest pride and joy, as was becoming a grandmother to Addisyn and Cayden. She thoroughly enjoyed taking her grandchildren to parks, playgrounds, and libraries at every opportunity.
Born in Dallas, Texas, in 1957 to Allen Donnelly Miller and Mary Michelle (Thomas) Miller, she was the oldest of a sister trio, leaving behind Tammy Bennett (Steve) and Jodi Bressler (Randy). Staci also loved spirited socializing with other family members, including her nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt, and uncle. She also remained closely connected to her dear friend and former spouse, Reggie Boyd.
Staci earned a bachelor’s degree in history and education from Gallaudet University and a master’s degree in Deaf education from Lamar University. As an undergraduate, she performed in the Gallaudet Dance Company, winning awards, traveling with singer Debbie Boone, and serving as Miss Corpus Christi in the 1980s.
Staci touched many lives during her 20-plus years as an educator. Prior to relocating back to her home state in 1995, Staci served as the head counselor at the Maryland School for the Deaf. At the Texas School for the Deaf, she taught history, reading, and writing. She loved diving into program and curriculum development that would improve the lives of others for years to come. Later in her career, she supported Texas DeafBlind clients by teaching them basic cooking and other essential life skills.
Happily retired, Staci was an active and engaged member of the Deaf community in Austin, including the Austin Deaf Club and the Travis Association of the Deaf–Senior Citizens. She advocated for Deaf rights, volunteering legislatively and through the Texas Association of the Deaf to further education rights for Deaf children. She also enjoyed reading, thrifting, and visiting historical sites.
She was deeply adored by her family, friends, former students, and colleagues, as she maintained contact with loved ones in her circle for decades. She is remembered for her kind, compassionate nature and willingness to assist those in need. She will be so missed.
A Spring 2025 memorial service will be planned by her loving family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you consider a donation to the Texas Association of the Deaf in her honor.
