Sonjia Burleson

Sonjia Geraldine Thompson Burleson, 70, of Pecan Hill, Texas, passed away February 17, 2018 in in Roanoke, Texas.

Visitation will be held at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas, on February 19, 2018 at 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral service will be held at Wayne Boze Funeral Home on February 20, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Pete Miller and Pastor Todd Summerford. Burial will follow at Cade Cemetery in Streetman, Texas (no graveside service). Wayne Boze Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.

Geraldine was born in Fulton, Mississippi, to William (W.F.) and Mazie Thompson on February 1, 1946. She graduated high school at Itawamba Agricultural High School. She also attended Itawamba Junior College. She married Joe Burleson, Sr. on November, 26, 1983.She and Joe owned and operated a forklift mechanic business for nineteen years. She was a member of the Buffalo Creek Church in Waxahachie. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards with her girlfriends, and watching her grandkids in all their adventures.

Geraldine is survived by her husband, Joe Burleson, Sr. and her children, Richard Houston (Deanna) of Fulton, Mississippi, Robin Zost (Vince) of Roanoke, Texas, Joe Burleson Jr. (Felicia) of Canton, Texas, Ronnie Burleson of Waco, Texas, and Robyn Hollas (Tyson) of Flower Mound, Texas. Grandchildren: Casey Nichols (Scotty), Russ Houston (Christy), Klay Houston, Kole Houston, Mazie Zost, Hudson Zost, Chelsey Hearn (Colby), Chloe Burleson, Cassidy Burleson, Caroline Burleson, Joe David Burleson III, Charley Grace Burleson, Hanna Burleson, Patrick Burleson, Milady Hollas and Jake Hollas. Great Grandchildren: Ian Nichols, Janalynn Nichols, Ryder Houston, Felicity Hearn, and a new one on the way. Geraldine is also Survived by one sister, Ann Seals (Jackie) of Smithville, Mississippi and brother, Terry Thompson (Ginny) of Kenosha Wisconsin, and a host of well-loved nieces and nephews.

Geraldine is preceded in death by her parents, W.F. and Mazie; two brothers Bill Thompson and Wayne Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Geraldine has been a long-time supporter of their mission to not charge family for their medical expenses.
