Sarah Pigg

April 2, 1942 — July 6, 2022

Waxahachie

Sarah Lee Hutchinson Pigg, a 58-year resident of Waxahachie passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 6th, 2022 at the age of 80.  She had been residing at the Brookdale Memory Care facility most recently after Alzheimer’s no longer allowed her to live in her home. Lee was born on April 2nd, 1942 in Tifton, GA to Joe and Zelma Mathis Hutchinson. Educated in Tift County schools, she was active in high school basketball and worked her father’s tobacco fields on the family farm.

Lee married Richard Earl Pigg in October of 1964 and moved to Waxahachie shortly thereafter.  She worked various jobs in and around Waxahachie and the Dallas area over the years.  She worked at Flexsteel Furniture as a seamstress in the 60s and 70s, in real estate sales in the 80s before spending over 20 years with Foley’s and Macy’s at various metroplex locations. Lee was active in the community through the Builder’s Class at the First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie and volunteered for several years in support of the Waxahachie Veterans Day ceremony.

Whether as a daughter, wife, mother, breadwinner, volunteer or grandmother, she was always immensely supportive of her family, a hardworking and persistent employee, a loyal friend to many and greeted everyone she met with a big smile.  She enjoyed fishing, Texas A&M athletics, supporting her sons’ and grandkids’ sporting endeavors but nothing made her happier than working in her perfectly manicured lawn and of course Sam, her dog and constant companion for 14 years.  Sarah Lee Pigg will be missed in the Waxahachie community.

Lee was preceded in death by her parents, former husband Richard, and her eldest sister, Mary Joyce Norman.  She is survived by an older sister Zema Claire Laird of Columbus GA, her son Von Pigg and his wife Heidi Morton Pigg, her son Ron Pigg and his wife Jamie Eason Pigg, and stepdaughter Lisa Elliott, all of Waxahachie, two grandchildren, Justin Pigg of Houston, TX and Sarah Kathleen Pigg of Los Angeles, CA, and various nieces and nephews from all over the country.
