Sallie Smith Hamm was born in Slocum, Tx. To parents Ollie and Ethel Smith. She retired from Flexsteel in Waxahachie, Tx.
She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Aunt. Sallie loved children and babies. She baby sat for years. She could cook, just ask anyone. He chicken and dumplings would put a smile on everyone’s face. Sallie lived in Ellis County for most of her life, moving to Terrell during the last few years. She was a woman that knew what she wanted and had a way of getting it. She loved Cheetos, Chocolate pinwheel cookies, Vienna sausage and grapes… and boy, if she ran out, she would burn up the phone directing Bobby to get her stuff…and quick!
Her eyes would light up when her loved ones came to visit her. She especially loved playing the slots at the casino, watching her game shows and the old westerns. She always saved the prizes she won from bingo to give to Kaylon when she would visit. Kaylon thought it was the best when she got to push Sallie up and down the halls in her wheelchair.
Sallie had a stern side. Katy went to the store with Sallie one day. Sallie’s car had the emergency brake in the center of the car so Katy thought it would be a funny joke to pull it. Sallie gets in and guns the car, thinking something was wrong. About that time, Katy laughed…after that, Katy didn’t want to make that decision again!
Bobby, being the mischief maker that he was, would often be instructed to go get a peach switch but he told her it was stupid for him to go get one for her. He finally decided that it was best for him to pick them since she could pick the ones that really hurt. Bobby says that he doesn’t remember his sister making that same mistake.
Sallie was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie and Ethel Smith; Husband, Henry Lee Hamm; Brothers, Carrie Lee Smith, LC (Red), Pete and Edward Smith; Sister, Edna Oliver and Grandson, Taggart Jake Hamm (TJ).
