Ruby Slagle

Ruby Pearl Rodges Slagle, 93 of Maypearl, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was one of 9 children being born to the late John and Margaret Clementine Lafayette on February 10, 1918 in Corsicana, Texas. Ruby grew up in West Texas during the depression until the age of 12 and then moved to Dallas County. She went to school in Wilmer Hutchins and made it through the 7th grade. She worked at Browne Cracker-in-Candy in Dallas and then worked at Lenor Jewelry until 1981, having worked there 20 years. Ruby met the love of her life in the 1930's; Nolen E. Slagle and they married on October 8, 1938 after dating about a year. Ruby and Nolen raised 6 children, worked hard and provided for their family. She and Nolen were married for 44 years. Nolen passed away on September 18, 1981. Ruby's mother taught her to quilt and she loved quilting. She quilted most of her life, quilting a quilt a week when she was younger. Known as "Mamaw" to so many, her favorite thing to do was quilting and going to Wal-Mart. The best time of her life was raising her kids and the greatest gift she ever received was her grandkids. She loved her family and was very devoted to them. She leaves behind so many wonderful memories and will never be forgotten. She is survived by her children, Nolan Slagle, Mary Fields, Debra Osteen and "Bo" David Slagle; and by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolen E. Slagle; by her daughter, Shirley Ann Slagle; and by her son, Ronald Wayne Slagle. Services to celebrate her life are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Mound Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Those serving as pallbearers include, Jeremy Osteen, Chris Slagle, J. J. Slagle, Cody Osteen, Robert Pettit and Tyler Pettit.
