Rubie Lee Odom Dyess, age 99
April 26, 1906
May 30, 2005

Mrs. Dyess passed away Monday morning at Pleasant Manor Health and Rehab. She was born in the Buena Vista Community west of Waxahachie, the daughter of John Selvage and Milbrey Catherine (Cooper) Odom.

She was the oldest surviving graduate of the Class of 1926 at Waxahachie High School.
She attained her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of North Texas
without having attended a regular semester, that is through summer school, night school
and extension courses. She taught in the Waxahachie and Ellis County Schools for
forty-five years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waxahachie, where she served as a worker for many years. She was a past member of the American Association of University Women, the Garden Club, the Century Club, the Retired Teachers Association of Texas, and Ellis County and other school organizations.

Mrs. Dyess is survived by: her son and daughter-in-law, Bobby D. and Sharon S. Dyess of Waxahachie; grandchildren, Robert Dale Dyess of Denver, CO., Jonathan David Dyess and wife Lisa of Waxahachie, and Juliana Dyess of Dallas; great granddaughter, Callie Ann Dyess of Harmony, PA.; and sister, Omega Odom of Springfield, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Olin Dyess; a son, John Franklin Dyess; her parents, six sisters, one brother, daughter-in-law, Janet Hassell Dyess, and a great granddaughter, Cassie Lee Dyess.

The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of her Life will be 10 AM Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the
First Baptist Church, 315 S. Rogers, Waxahachie, TX. 75165 with Dr. Leroy Fenton officiating. Pallbearers will be Bill G. Dyess, Bill R. Dyess, Randall Dyess, Jon Lumbley, Brian Burks and Larry Burks. Honorary Pallbearers will be T. D. Matthews, Bob Saylors, Horace Bratcher and Keli Odom. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Burial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
