Roy F. Carlson died peacefully on June 25, 2007 in Abilene, Texas following a lengthy illness. Mr. Carlson was born near Longmont, Colorado on June 24, 1943, the son of Swedish immigrants. He served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II. A graduate of both Colorado School of Mines (B.S. Petroleum Engineering) and Tufts University (B.S, Mechanical Engineering), Mr. Carlson began his career as a petroleum engineer with Phillips Petroleum Company. While in Midland serving as the West Texas editor of the Oil and Gas Journal, he met his wife Martha with whom he shared more than 50 years of marriage. He joined the American Petroleum Institute in Dallas in 1953 and served as Director of the Dallas office of the API from 1966 until his retirement in 1984.

Preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John E. Carlson, Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife, Martha Scott Carlson of Abilene; a son, J. Scott Carlson of Dallas; a daughter, Laura Carlson Dyer of Abilene; and a brother, Kenneth Carlson of Boise, Idaho. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Alison Dyer Babb of Dallas, Alex Dyer and Ann Dyer of Abilene and Susanna Carlson and John Carlson of Dallas; nieces Kay Almand of Waxahachie and Jan Burleson of Houston and their families and long time family friend Lillian Neal of Waxahachie.

The Celebration of Life will be Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 2 PM at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel.Interment will follow in the Sardis Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
