Robert Wellborn

December 3, 1948 — November 6, 2015

Robert Allen Wellborn was born in Dallas, Texas, on December 3, 1948, to parents Noble O. (Green) and Burl G. Wellborn. He graduated from Sunset High School in 1967 and attended the University of Texas at Arlington. While in college he pursued a career in audio, training in two Dallas-based recording studios before he began a career in concert sound at Showco in Dallas. With Showco he traveled the world with major performers and engineered sound in venues such as the London Palladium, the Boston Pops, Candlestick Park and the Hollywood Bowl, as well as in countless theatres of all sizes worldwide. In 1974 he married Rebecca Brown, and they moved from Dallas to Los Angeles in order for Robert to design, build and run a concert sound system for The Carpenters. Robert and Rebecca returned to Texas in 1994 and formed RW Design, installing premises cabling for audio, video, communications, data and fiber optics. Robert was a musician who played lead guitar with Lone Star Glory, the "house band" for St. Paul Episcopal Church, and with the St. Paul choir. Robert was also a private pilot, woodworker and avid motorcyclist. He also oversaw all of the audio/video needs for the church and served as president of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. God sent many angels to guide Robert through the last weeks of his life. Their prayers and love sustained him as he made his way to the light and Glory of Christ, Jesus. Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca; brother Norman and Louise Wellborn of Gun Barrel City; nephew Jerry and Lisa Wellborn and their children Sergey and Noah, of Leander; brother-in-law Hugh and Carla Brown of Coppell; nephew William Brown of Boston; "surrogate daughter" Michele Mikesell of Dallas; goddaughters Brogan, Madigan and Seren Sloan of Waxahachie; and a large and loving church family. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, November 20 at 3 pm at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 624 Ovilla Road, Waxahachie, Texas 75167; phone 972-938-2126. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Paul Episcopal Church memorial fund for Robert Wellborn.
