Robert Wayne Thompson, age 70

Robert Wayne Thompson, lifetime Waxahachie resident, passed away Friday morning at his residence. He was born in Waxahachie to R.M. and Louise (Ellison) Thompson. Robert graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1954 and married Jan Bradford on September 3, 1954 in Waxahachie. Robert joined the Army National Guard (49th Armored Division) in 1955. The unit was activated in 1961 during the Cuban Missle Crisis, and he retired from the Guard in 1995 after 30 years of service. Robert was employed with Tyler Refrigeration for 22 years in the parts, sales, and service department.
Robert Wayne enjoyed all youth sports and coaching youth baseball. His special enjoyment was when his children and grandchildren were involved. He was past president of the Indian Booster Club, past member of the Waxahachie Optimist
Club, and in his younger years, he was active in civic activities in the community. He enjoyed his woodcraft shop, going to craft shows, fishing, camping, and outdoors in general.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jan Thompson of Waxahachie, one son, Wayne Lee Thompson and wife Lacey of Bossier City, LA; two daughters, Jana Len Santos and husband Charlie, and Jennifer Ellen Wilhoite and husband Rodney, both of Waxahachie. Six grandchildren also survive; Eric Thompson of Red Oak, Katie and Derek Hardin of Columbus, Oh, Laura Santos of Waxahachie, PFC Robert Santos of Ft. Sill, Ok, Anna and Ellison Wilhoite of Waxahachie, and a half sister Lacey Allen of Cushing, TX. His parents and a half sister preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 pm Sunday evening, November 20th, at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of life will be held at 2 pm, Monday, November 21st at the Waxahachie Bible Church with Pastor Bruce Zimmerman officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Sardis Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Grant, Jimmy Ray, Darrel Strength, Randy Lewis, Christopher Lewis, and Wade "Buck" Stanton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike O'Daniel, Ken Roberts, W.L. Green, Johnny Thompson, Steve Wallace, and Butch Price.
Memorials may be made to the Waxahachie Bible Church "Missions."
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
