Richard Harris

Richard Charles Harris of Waxahachie, Texas passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021 at the age of 89.  He died peacefully with his loving wife, Mary Anne, his son, Steve, and daughter, Nancy by his side.

Richard (known to all as R.C.) was born on October 25, 1932 in Athens, Texas.  As a young man he learned to work hard, take care of his family, and do the right thing. These skills would serve him well later in life as a local business owner, mentor, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

R.C. established many successful businesses throughout his life.  He owned several top-rated service stations in the Dallas area, as well as Harris Tire Company in Athens. He founded H & H Oil Co. and became one of the leading Exxon fuel distributors in the U.S.  He spent a number of years serving on the board of the Texas Oil Marketers Association and served as President of the Association in 1994-95.  In his retirement years he became a commercial real estate developer, adding hotels and restaurants to the Waxahachie business community.  He offered continued support throughout the years to his community and his church family, Farley Street Baptist Church.

R.C. was an avid hunter and world traveler.  Over the years he visited many beautiful and exotic places, but his favorite of them all was Yellowstone National Park.  He preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Bobbie) Harris, and two of his great grandchildren.  He is survived by his wife Mary Anne, his sons, Wesley Harris of New Orleans and Steve Harris of Waxahachie, his daughter Nancy Hollingsworth of Waxahachie, his stepson, David Wells of Red Oak, 12 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
