Rev. Jerry Lynn Burnaman

December 24, 1941-August 13, 2020

Jerry Burnaman went to his heavenly home to forever be in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Wednesday morning, August 13, 2020.  He was born December 24, 1941 in Etoile, TX.  After graduating from Woden High School, he attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX.  While at home in Etoile the summer of 1960 he attended a revival meeting and accepted the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.  Later that night, he felt God calling him to be a preacher, and he surrendered his life to the full-time Gospel ministry.  In the fall of 1960, he attended Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, TX, where he met his wife, Nancy Stephens of Lubbock, TX.  On August 25, 1961, they were married at Central Baptist Church in Lubbock, TX.  Jerry received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Texas Tech University and then went on to complete a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX.

He was a BMA pastor for 38 years with his longest tenure being at First Baptist Church in Carthage, TX, from 1977-1998.  In 1998, he became the Director of both Missions and the Baptist Missionary Loan Association for the BMA of TX in Waxahachie until 2015.  At that time, he retired from the Director of Missions but continued serving part time as the Director of the Loan Association until his death.

He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Nancy; his son, Stephen and wife Sandra of Austin, TX;  daughter, Terri Hathcock and husband Roy of Edmond, OK; grandchildren Caleb Hathcock and wife Katherine, Hannah Malone and husband Grant and Seth Burnaman; great-grandsons Hudson Malone, Briggs Hathcock, and Nathan Malone; 2 sisters—Eunice Morton and husband Troy of Longview, TX and Maggie Martin of Alexandria, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyce Burnaman and Vivian Burnaman.

Some of his favorite past times were reading Louis L’Amour novels and watching Texas Rangers baseball.  He was a lover of God, His Word, His people and the family and friends God gave to him along his journey on this earth.  He loved to preach the Gospel and was an avid story teller.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 1-2pm at Farley Street Baptist Church in Waxahachie.  Service will follow at 2pm. Arrangements especially for the Burnaman family under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
