Raymond G. Martin, age 85
February 19, 1921
January 26, 2007

Raymond was born in Ovilla, Texas to Homer Gardner and Mary Orlean (Pogue) Martin. He was raised in Waxahachie and graduated from Ennis High School. Raymond served in the US Army during WWII. In his early years he learned the value of good work ethics, character and friendships while working for the local butcher delivering meat to the downtown Waxahachie restaurants. Raymond was an outdoor enthusiast who was able to combine his hobbies into a career. For more than 40 years he was a manufacturer's rep. with Duncan Lewis Sporting Goods of Birmingham, Alabama retiring in 1989. He traveled extensively setting up accounts for Plano Tackle boxes, Thompson Center Fire, and other name brand products. Raymond also field-tested products for all the major gun manufacturers including Glock, Remington, and TCF. At one time he was an instructor for Texas Parks and Wildlife in Hunter Safety and Black Powder Shooting. Raymond was also part of the original group in Waco that started the Bass Fishing Tournaments.
Raymond married Margaret Hedden on February 7, 1975 in Waxahachie. They, with their dance partners, Charlie and Dorothy Taylor, enjoyed dancing three times a week at West, Hillsboro, Duncanville or Dallas. Elvira was his favorite dance song. In 1996 Raymond started a new career as a Funeral Assistant and handyman with Wayne Boze. He and Burns Mitchell were instrumental in the startup of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home and that team cannot be duplicated. Due to health concerns Raymond retired in 2002.
Surviving him are: his loving wife of 32 years, Margaret Martin of Waxahachie; two daughters, Deborah Martin and her friend Britt Ables of Rowlett, Patricia Hernandez and her husband Patrick of Waxahachie; two grandchildren, Charles Hamm, his wife Kelly and their children Shaina, Noah, and Sethan all of California, Wendy Moore and her children, Megan, Brandon and Andrew all of Terrell. Also surviving is one sister Evelyn Wilson of Waxahachie, sister-in law Doris Martin of Wichita Falls and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers Buford Dale and JW Martin.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday evening at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 10 AM Wednesday, January 31, 2007 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel with Brother Richard Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be Janice Lawson, Charles Alvin Wilson, Ronald Henley, Charlie Taylor, Raul Garcia, and Gary Byers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Patrick Hernandez, Britt Ables, Charles Hamm and all former and current employees of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 1 PM in the DFW National Cemetery.
