Raquel Hernandez, 75 of Waxahachie, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017 in Waxahachie, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late Hilario and Leocadia Solis on November 24, 1941 in Bristol, Texas.
Raquel obtained her GED and went to nursing school at Navarro College in 1984. She graduated and went to work for the VA that same year. She retired with 25 years at the VA Hospital in Dallas. She was a dedicated servant to her church, Primera Iglesias Bautista, where she was active in children's ministry throughout her adult life. She had a heart of worship and ministered through her voice until she could no longer sing. She loved spending time with all of her family and friends. She would visit the homebound until she couldn't any longer. Raquel's favorite past time was going to the movies. She loved reading her Bible and being read to. She was loved by so many and opened her heart and house to anyone who had a need.
She is survived by her husband, Adolphus Rudolph Hernandez; her children, Kristine Cannon (Husband Richard Cannon Jr.), Gabriel Hernandez; her sisters, Martha Iglesias (Spouse, Augustine Iglesias -deceased), Lydia Martinez (Spouse, Herman Martinez), Ruth Lopez (Spouse, Joe Lopez), Mary Ruiz (Spouse, Manuel Ruiz - deceased), Naomi Martinez (Spouse, Gilbert Martinez); her brothers, George Solis (Spouse, Martha Solis), Tom Solis (Spouse, Alba Solis), John Solis (Spouse, Betty Solis), Ruben Solis, Sam Solis; her grandchildren, Candice Valentine (Spouse, Sean Valentine), Gabriel Hernandez, Jr., Charles Alexander Taylor, Caleb Hernandez, Richard Trey Cannon; her great grandchildren, David Ross, Aaron Hamilton, Heaven Hamilton, Leah Williamson, Jalen Williamson and Cassidy Valentine; sister-in-law, Margaret Solis; also by numerous nieces and Nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilario and Leocadia Solis; her brothers, Benjamin Solis and Daniel Solis; and by her sister, Sarah Salinas.
Services to celebrate her life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the Waxahachie Bible Church. A private interment will be held at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 27, 2017 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
