Ralph Lambuth Swallow, 97 of Waxahachie, passed away surrounded by his loving family on the evening of Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He was born on April 8, 1919 in Ft. Worth, Texas to the late Mary Eva Sills and Elmer Montgomery Swallow.
Ralph graduated from Northside High School in Ft. Worth. He married the love of his life, Bernice Williamson on October 2, 1937. Ralph proudly served our country, serving in the United States Army from 1944 to 1945, 119th Infantry during WWII. He attended Texas Christian University, taking business and administrative courses. He moved to Waxahachie and set up Christian Fidelity Life Insurance Company, serving as Executive Vice President. He retired from Christian Fidelity in 1985 but continued selling policies until the age of 90. Ralph joined the University Church Assembly of God Church in 1954. Ralph joined Rotary and became a proud Rotarian in 1957, serving as president from 1962-1963. He served on the Planning and zoning committee for 27 years; he served 3 terms on the city council and one year as mayor pro-tem; served on the board of the Waxahachie Senior Center, Ellis County Christian Men's Fellowship and the SAGU Board of Regents. Ralph received Outstanding Citizen of Waxahachie in 2012 and served on the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors from 1977 to 1979. Ralph also enjoyed working with the Ellis County Prison Ministry.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Tonya Swallow Bazan; his sons, Elmer Roy and Anna Swallow, also by Marvin Swallow; his grandchildren, Casey Swallow and son, Lindsey Swallow and Children, Holly Swallow and Children, Debra Swallow and children, Jason Swallow and Samantha Swallow; his great grandchildren, Lauren Bazan Hargrave and husband, Jeremy and Jeremy Bazan and wife, Sarah; also by his great great grandchildren, Natalie Bazan and Jackson Bazan.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Eva Laverne Swallow, his wife, Bernice Swallow, son Mike Swallow and great granddaughter Ashley Bazan.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the exceptional care given by his personal caregiver, Angelica Garcia and by Bristol Hospice.
A memorial service to celebrate Ralph's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2016 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
