Peggy Cantu, 68 died February 23, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 19, 1946 to Dorothy Louise and Robert Woodrow (Rusty) Doherty in Waxahachie. She graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1964 and played the drum in the WHS band. After graduating from High School, Peggy began her career as a Hairdresser at her mother's beauty shop and continued that career until her retirement in September of 2013. She worked at the Glamour Salon and after that salon closed, she worked at the Hair House until she was diagnosed with breast and lung cancer. She married Billy Joe Cantu on July 30, 1965 and was looking forward to celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary this year. She met Billy when she was 13 and they fell in love, they had a special connection and they have taken care and loved each other every day since. Peggy was a very loving and caring person. She was loved by so many and was an exceptional Wife and Mother to their two children. Not only did she love them unconditionally, she cared for and also loved her extended family. She was so special and unique and was a person that always wanted to help people. She was kind and generous and touched so many lives. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids and everyone loved going to Peggy and BJ's house. She loved watching all of her grandsons play sports. She rarely missed a game if it was possible for her to attend. Caleb and Cole Cantu have played baseball for many years in Texas and Arizona, where they lived for 3 years. While Nona was able to see many of their games, the distance often required a video, photos, and a phone call with updates or game outcome. She was so proud when Caleb recently made his Flower Mound Marcus High School Freshman Baseball Team. Peyton Moore loved spending time with his Nona, who encouraged him to pursue golf. He is on the Varsity Golf Team at The Life School in Waxahachie, Texas. She was one of the most enthusiastic Indian fans and supported all sports. She loved going to the games and listening to Ken on KBEC. She was so proud of her grandson, Auston Moore, a senior on the Waxahachie Indian baseball team. Her goal was to be well enough to watch him play. When she was really sick, she would park in the parking lot of Richard's Park trying to just get a glimpse of him and listen to the radio. She followed every team in the playoffs and loved when they advanced to state. Over the years, she would take as many kids as she could in her vehicle to go watch and support the Indians. She was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and Robert Doherty, her brother Robert Wayne Doherty and mother-in- law and father-in-law, Joe and Naomi Cantu, Sister-in-law, Naomi (Meme) LeBlanc, and Evan Cantu, nephew. She is survived by her husband, Billy Joe Cantu, her daughter, Traci Jill Moore and husband Jason, her son, Chris Cantu and wife Maruchy.
