Patrick George Kennedy of Waxahachie, TX died on April 8, 2021 after a long battle with cancer.  He was born on March 16, 1949 in Howell, Michigan. Pat lived in Lansing, MI for 30 years and graduated from Everett High (1967) He was passionate about sports and traveling with his family. Pat started his career in Lansing and entered the insurance sales profession, eventually starting his own insurance agency there.

Pat moved to Dallas, Texas in 1983 after meeting his future wife Detra (DeeDee). They were happily married for 38 years and lived in Waxahachie, Texas, raising their son Michael, and her sons, which he considered his own, Rick (Cari), Jeff (Mary) and Brad (Bindu) DeLaughter.

Pat was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife DeeDee, 4 sons and 7 grandchildren: Brooke, Karina, Jana, Jena, Colton, Wyatt DeLaughter, and Emma Kennedy; sisters Gail Burke, Michelle Soderberg and brother Richard Avis and many nieces and nephews. Pat was predeceased by parents George and Illene Kennedy, and sister Brenda.

Pat shared his love of people and to talk; he was the consummate salesperson. He was a trailblazer in his community and was intensely dedicated to his customers and colleagues. He joined Kraftsman Commercial Playgrounds and Water Parks (Spring, Texas) and for 20 years provided recreational equipment throughout the state of Texas, leaving a legacy of lifelong relationships, joy, happy children and happy communities.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials be made to The St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; www.stjude.org.
