Olive Howard, 86 of Waxahachie, passed away Monday, April 13, 2009 at Baylor Medical Center of Waxahachie. She was born to the late Fred & Addie Mae Griffin Hooper on March 22, 1923 in Files Valley.
Olive graduated from Itasca High School where she enjoyed playing basketball, tennis and track. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. Olive loved her church and was a member of Farley Street Baptist Church for 60 years where she was very active. She was a seamstress by profession but spent most of her married life taking care of her home and family. Olive was very caring and giving. She enjoyed visiting at the nursing homes and loved helping others.
She is survived by her daughters, Glenda Vaughn and her husband, Carl of Avalon, Sherry Matthews and her husband, Mickey of Waxahachie; her sisters, Dorothy Pattison of Jefferson, Ruth Prince and her husband, Charles of Kemp; her brothers, Edmund Hooper of Waco, Jim Hooper and his wife, Sandy of Ferris, Frank Hooper of Princeton; her grandchildren, Monica Presley of Waxahachie, James Presley of Broken Bow, OK, Jennifer Howard Buske of New York, NY, Tammie McHam of Red Oak, Bill Howard of Waxahachie, Gracie Howard of Norco CA; 8 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Glen (Doc) Howard; her son, David Howard; her sister, Evelyn Brown; her brother, Fred Hooper; and long time friend and companion of 30 years, Edward Wright.
Services to celebrate her life are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at Farley Street Baptist Church with Bro. Richard Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
The family request that memorials be made to the Farley Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 1116 Brown Street, Waxahachie, Texas 75165.
