Oleta (Underwood)Dial Bridges, age 92, passed away November 10, 2007. Oleta was born on January 9, 1915 to Dellie and J. B. Underwood, Sr. She grew up in the Boz community outside Waxahachie, and attended school there until she transferred to Waxahachie School District, where she graduated.
She worked several years at Neiman Marcus in Dallas, and on January 13, 1950, she married Charles Rayburn Dial. They lived in Paris, Texas and owned and operated Paris Livestock Commission Company. She was an avid golfer. In 1972 they moved to Quitman, Texas where Mr. Dial retired and Oleta worked out of her home doing seamstress work and alterations for a local deparment store. She also was very active in a local bridge club. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Quitman. Mr. Dial passed away in 1991 and she continued to live alone, until she met and married Roy Wilson Bridges on November 6, 1995. Mr. Bridges passed away in September 2005. She moved to Covenant Place in Waxahachie in January 2006 and later moved to Aimee's House in Duncanville in March 2007 where she resided at the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert Underwood and James Underwood; two sisters, Lois Curry and Ruby Cockerham, one nephew, Mark Underwood, and her husbands mentioned above.
She is survived by no children, but a niece that like her daughter, Valera Abright of DeSoto, an a nephew that was like her son, Dennis Cockerham of California. She also is survived by one brother, J. B. Underwood, Jr. and his wife, Wilma of Waxahachie. Also, three sisters-in-law, Bettie Austin, Billie Underwood and Mable Sullivan. She has several nieces and nephews, Brad Underwood, Bart Underwood, Sally Shelton, Joe Bob Underwood, Jim Ed Underwood, Stacy Knightstep, and Deena Murdoch, and their families. Also, her step-family which included Perry & Dottie Bridges, Mack & Kay Pryor, Lynn & Stella Bridges, Jerry & Teresa Bridges, and their families.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, November 19, 2007 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas.
A graveside service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Mineola, Texas under the direction of Lowe Funeral Home of Quitman will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2007.
Honorary pallbearers include Lloyd Barrow, Rusty Hightower, Mack Pryor, Perry Bridges, David Abright, and Carl Smith.
