Netta Jewell Landrum, age 99
February 10, 1906
August 18, 2005
Netta Jewell Landrum, 99 years and six months, of Red Oak, TX., formerly of Matador, TX., passed away Thursday August 18, 2005. She was born February 10, 1906, in Erath County, TX., to James Andrew Jackson and Bertha Wideman Jackson. When she was a young girl, she moved with her family to West Texas. There she met and married Sidney Franklin Landrum, Jr., on March 15,1925, in Matador, TX. They lived in several areas of Texas before moving to Odessa in 1942 where they made their home until the death of Mr. Landrum in 1961. Mrs. Landrum moved to Matador, TX. soon after his death and remained there until she moved to Red Oak in 2003. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
The couple had seven children, four of which preceded her in death. They were: Sidney James, Joe Floyd, Albert Edward, and Lynda Gaynell Shipman Florey. Also preceding her in death were her husband, five grandchildren, her parents, three brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by: her sons, John Landrum and wife, Mary, of Red Oak; Bobby Landrum and wife, Patricia, of Odessa; her daughter, Louise Johnson of Abilene; twenty eight grandchildren; thirty six great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jewell was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was greatly loved by all of her family and friends. In addition to the many duties involved in taking care of a big family, she loved to work outside and kept her garden and yard for as long as she was able. Reading and quilting were her favorite hobbies and through the years she made sure that each of her children and grandchildren received a pretty quilt made by "Granny Landrum".
The family will receive friends and relatives 9-10 AM Monday, August 22, 2005 at the Sunset Memorial Gardens, 6801 E. Hwy. 80, Odessa, TX. The Celebration of her Life will be 10 AM Monday also at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, with interment following in the Fountain Garden.
Memorials may be sent to the East Mound Cemetery, P. O. Box 69, Metador, TX. 79244.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Red Oak Funeral Home.
