Naomi Ruth Wooley, known by many simply as Ruth, Mrs. Wooley, Mama, or Granny passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, in Waxahachie, Texas, at the amazing age of 100. Ruth was born in Waxahachie, Texas at the Waxahachie Sanitarium on August 30, 1924. She lived her life with a dedication to her family that never wavered, and this was her greatest gift.
Ruth was preceded in death by her devoted husband Horace Paul Wooley, brother Morris Neal, son Joe “Bubba” Wooley, son-in-law Michael Eldon Davis, grandson Chad McDonald, and granddaughter Ashley West.
She is survived by her son Paul “Mikey” Wooley, daughter Judy Merrell, daughter Patricia “Pat” McDonald, son David “Butch” Wooley, seven (7) grandchildren, thirteen (13) great-grandchildren, three (3) great-great-grandchildren and numerous other family, friends and loved ones who will all hold her memory forever in their hearts.
Ruth was born and raised in Waxahachie, Texas, and she was proud of it. If you didn’t know of the love she had for her hometown, you would be sure to within moments of meeting her. Her accomplishments were many, but her greatest accomplishment was being a dedicated and loyal loving wife and mother. Through good times, tough times, and bad times, she was always there.
She was the true matriarch of her family. She made sure her children and family never wanted for anything and would do whatever she could to make sure of that. Whether it was leading the Cub Scouts, the Brownies, or spending countless hours working the concession stands to support her kids, she could always be counted on to be there. Even in the rare moments she was not working or volunteering, she was usually supporting her children from the bleachers and making new friends.
Ruth was a lifelong member of Ferris Heights Methodist Church in Waxahachie, Texas. She was a garage sale enthusiast; and knew how to spot a bargain. She never met a stranger, and if you walked by her in her swing tied to the old bodark tree you were sure to be greeted by a friendly hello and a long conversation. Outside of her family and Waxahachie, her greatest love was spending time at the lake. Whether it was fishing, water skiing (she didn’t know how to swim), boating or just spending time with her family, she loved every second of it.
There is no doubt that all our lives are better off for having had Ruth Wooley in them. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. Her legacy will continue to live on, and the light she shed on her family, friends, and loved ones will never dim.
The celebration of her life will be held in the chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie, TX, on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery.
